Advanced Dance Classes
At RDC, Advanced training isn’t about preparing for the spotlight, it’s about preparing to lead.
Our Advanced classes in Ballet, Tap, and Modern Theatre are a stepping stone for those who want to teach at the highest level. These sessions support students working towards their ISTD Intermediate, Advanced 1, and Advanced 2 exams, not as a performer’s badge of honour, but as a teacher’s foundation.
Here, you don’t have to look a certain way, wear a certain thing, or chase comparisons. You come as you are. What matters is building the strength, understanding, and technical knowledge that will serve you and your future students. In small groups, with expert support, you’ll refine your own dancing while learning how to analyse, adapt, and explain it to others.
Because this isn’t a centre for performers. It’s a place for dance teachers. The work you do at Advanced level isn’t just about what you can achieve, but about equipping yourself to pass all of that on with confidence.

Our Advanced classes are designed with teachers in mind. Whether you want to train for yourself, work towards an exam, or learn the syllabus to take back to your own students, you’ll find the space to do it here.
Come as you are. Wear what you like. Bring whatever energy you have that day, whether it’s 30% or 100%, you’re welcome. Some weeks you might want to push through an amalgamation. Other weeks you might just want to refresh, observe, or sit with your notebook and take it all in. That’s all valid.
This isn’t a performer’s college. It’s a teacher’s college. We’re here to help you understand the work, deepen your knowledge, and give you the confidence to pass it on.

I had a great time learning, dancing and eventually taking my Adv1 modern with Jess. There was never any pressure to dance like a 17/18 year old, I could just be myself and really dance. Jess was fab, with meticulous planning and outstanding teaching but then eventually asking me what I needed which I haven’t experienced much of before, so it meant she really cared! She made me feel super confident before taking my exam and it’s such a great feeling to get that exam result even as a full on adult!

Do I have to be at Advanced level to start teacher training?
No. Many of our students come to us before they’ve taken Advanced exams. We’ll help you work towards Intermediate, Advanced 1, or Advanced 2 as part of your teacher training journey. You don’t need to arrive “ready”, that’s what we’re here for.
What’s the difference between Advanced exams at RDC and elsewhere?
At RDC, Advanced isn’t about performing at all costs. It’s about understanding technique deeply enough to teach it. You’ll train in a supportive environment that focuses on clarity, progression, and adaptability. You'll still get the same high standards of teaching, just without competition or comparison.
Do I have to wear a certain uniform or look a certain way?
No. This isn’t a performer’s college. It’s a teacher’s college. What matters is your willingness to learn and your commitment to becoming a better educator. We care about your knowledge, confidence, and growth, not whether you fit a mould.
How much does it cost?
£12 for a single class or £33 per month. Private coaching is from £30ph.
